We've rented a car here a few times without issues, until our last experience. We booked a car online in advance to pick up on Friday evening, intending to go straight after work. The first red flag was the receptionist reluctantly opening the door, clearly ready to leave, and telling us that the Sixt office was already closed. After half an hour, we finally found out that the manager had gone home, despite us arriving well within business hours. It was clear he’d forgotten our booking and wasn’t planning to come back.

If it were any other time, maybe it wouldn’t be such a big deal. But on a Friday night, we couldn’t book a car anywhere else, and we had hotels, tours, and reservations lined up. The Sixt manager managed to book us a car in Vienna (yes, another country), apparently just by quickly reserving something online. The extra costs of getting to Vienna and continuing our trip exceeded our initial budget by over three times.

Thanks, Sixt, but next time we’ll book elsewhere. Slovakia has other international options like Avis, Europcar, and local alternatives.
