I rented cars from Hertz at the Mannheim Rd location for Uber, but this experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. A few weeks after returning my car in perfect condition, I received a letter falsely claiming I damaged the windshield and made a report about it—which I never did. They billed me $450 without providing any details about the damage.

When I called to dispute the claim, they claimed I reported a tree falling on the car, which is completely false. The car was inspected at return, and no issues were found. I provided time-stamped photos and GPS data proving I didn’t cause any damage, but Hertz has completely ignored my dispute. They refuse to provide any photos of the damage, even after I requested them multiple times. Instead, they just sent me another identical letter repeating the same false claim.

This company is a scam, and I will never use Hertz again. I’ll be sharing this experience everywhere to warn people about their dishonest practices. If you’re renting a car, stay away from Hertz!

Very Disappointing Experience - Unhelpful and Disrespectful

I had a very frustrating experience with Hertz at the Des Plaines, IL location. My husband was in town for a family emergency, and I had booked a car in advance to help him out. However, when he went to pick up the vehicle, the agent refused to release it because I, the primary renter, wasn’t present.

Despite explaining the situation, the agent wouldn’t budge, leaving my husband waiting for over an hour with no resolution. I called Hertz corporate hoping for assistance, but they were just as unhelpful, offering no solution or support. I also tried to call the agent on-site directly, but the phone was never answered. To make matters worse, I have Gold Star status with Hertz, but it clearly meant nothing to them. There was no loyalty to a long-time customer.

Ultimately, we had to leave and find a car from a different rental agency that was willing to assist. It’s incredibly disappointing that Hertz didn’t show any flexibility or understanding, especially during a family emergency. This experience caused unnecessary stress, and I won’t be using their services again.

Got an accident needed a rental, the at fault insurance sent me here…

The agent at the counter was friendly and got me the car that I needed, I wouldn’t say its perfect lol

She answered the questions I had and send me on my way

It was in the winter, she did realize there is no tool for me to clean off the snow so she went back to grab me snow brush!

the car only has half of gas tank, wish it was full!

they are willing to drop me off/pick up the car at the car repair center

overall, it wasn’t bad

Incredibly disorganized, the dealership and the call center are not coordinating with each other. Three days waiting for a car that wasn’t ever going to be available. Then another popped up and we were told it will be available soon. Called the dealership directly and the person answered, said “it’s sold, or it could be in the shop, I’m not sure”, and then HUNG UP on me. Would not recommend to anyone!

Hertz can do better. I booked an EV for a weekend rental. I was told the first car had an issue so they were finding me a different one. No problem and the wait was not that long. When I was given the "replacement" vehicle. I did my walk around and the car was dirty but again not too much of a problem. However when I sat inside this vehicle interior was filthy. The cup holder was caked with gunk. No floor mats in the front or back seats, the seats had crumbs in them and the headliners were dirty all around. I spoke with the rep and showed her and she said she would make sure to "take care of some of the bill" because they will be closed when I return it. Great. When I start the vehicle a message for an update pops on the screen and she tells me don't do the update Hertz will do it later. I take the vehicle anyway. Later that night at 12:30am the vehicle does the update automatically. This caused me to have to wait 30+ mins in the middle of the night to drive. Making me feel not safe. Lastly there was no regular slow charger in the vehicle..... When I called Hertz no answer at the local number and when I got a hold of someone at Hertz Corp I was told I did indeed receive a discount of $10 for Uber credit. $10 was not close to the amount needed for the multiple issues with this rental.

The worst car rental company , and worst rental office ever! They run by 4 people that don’t care about customers, treated customers like, they’re doing the favors!
Filthy waiting area, unclean chairs! They will stare at their monitors as if the work is so hard! They’re trying to confuse you, when they explain terms of their rent!
The woman that bring the car is rude at best! The cars are given with no carpet liners then of course it going to get dirty and they made you go out to vacuum it! I have never have to do it with any rental car!
You can expect to wait to even ask or talk to them, you felt like you’re at low income line.They aren’t busy as it’s at LAX but you still have to wait for their mercy to call you to their high horse little dirty desk like 2 hours when they only have maximum 10 people in the room! The only thing good about this place is their bathroom( at least it’s clean)
If I can give Zero star I would!

I just purchased a Chevy Suburban from Hertz Car Sales in Des Plaines Illinois. it was a great all around experience. Rocco was my sales representative and he did everything that i asked. He was responsive and my the whole experience very easy. Len was the sales manager who handled all of my paperwork and that could not have been easier. I would recommend this dealer to all of my friends. A very easy Experience

I will not recommend Tesla electric cars using Uber. big problem charging stations . First, I got an uncleaned car, and the second windshield water tank was empty and charging was showed 131 miles. Tesla refill bill for 14 days is 329.28 USD which is incorrect. I will need stationwise detail.
