I’ve received two notices from Sixt’s Damage Department after returning cars to the Hohenfels location.

WARNING: Always take multiple photos and videos before driving off in your rental. THESE CARS OFTEN HAVE PRE-EXISTING, UNRECORDED DAMAGE.

Do a full walk-around video of the car’s exterior and interior, ensuring you capture the license plate, odometer, and fuel level. This is your best defense against being blamed for scratches, dents, or stains you didn’t cause.

Take photos of any damage and email them to yourself and the rental company. When returning the car, repeat the process and compare videos. If you spot new damage, report it immediately and provide video evidence. Trust me, it may save you a few thousand euros.

Simple experience, downloaded the app in the US. Made a reservation once I got to Germany 3 hours before the store opened that day, and they had me in and out in 15 minutes driving off with a car. The Euro spec cars they offer helped out alot as the Audi A2 I'm renting has a feature that shows the current speed limit sign next to the speedometer. Great experience all around.

Once you have your USAREUR license and can drive on German roads, this place will help you get rolling. Easy to sort options and a friendly staff. Depending on how long you plan to drive, there are different rental options. The location is great, just below the PX so it is easy to get to the office. It is a small location and they are limited on cars. The staff was nice enough to notify us when one became available and we were then able to get everything else taken care of to sort out a permanent vehicle.

Absolutely terrible business, if you can call it that. Tried to make a reservation through them for PCSing because they were conveniently on base, I received an email one hour before pickup that they had no vehicles available and I would have to pick up in Regensburg, but they would handle the reservation. They reserved an all electric car instead of the vehicle I had originally requested, an electric car wouldn’t work for where I needed to go and I was charged an extra €120 for an upgrade, I went back to this place to fix the issue and they told me they didnt reserve an electric vehicle, even though they clearly did, and that they can’t do anything about it. Useless “service.” The fact they can remain on this installation is mind boggling to me.

Rented from this company for convenience to post during my PCS. Entire experience was awful. I initially reserved a station wagon over 45 days in advance, but when I called the SIXT office at Hohenfels their system was not able to see reservations beyond 30 days and could not verify my reservation. On pickup, I asked if there was a damage sheet to review damages to the vehicle and was told “no, we have all damages recorded and let us know if you find anything new”. How am I supposed to know that without the recorded damage sheet? So I took lots of pictures of the vehicle as it had significant damage around the exterior. The interior was not clean and the check engine light was on when I started the vehicle and throughout the entire time I had it. I turned the vehicle keys in after-hours using the drop box and later received an email from the damage department stating they found new damage to the vehicle. At no point did I have any accident with this vehicle (only 24 hours). I have not been able to speak with any representative regarding this matter and my $250 security deposit has not been returned. Terrible office and business practice at the Hohenfels SIXT office. I do NOT recommend this company, but if you have to use it, make them do a joint inspection of the vehicle and conduct a DETAILED inspection to ensure they do t try to say you caused damage you didn’t.
